Bosco Boys Today

The overall goal of Bosco Boys is to provide a home, basic human needs and spiritual nourishment to needy children who formally lived (or are currently living) in the streets. Emphasis is laid on education because it is seen as a necessary tool in equipping street children to become self-reliant. It allows them to become independent citizens capable of making a positive change in society.

Apart from education, we also endeavour to meet their basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter and above all a family atmosphere. This we do with the aim of providing an environment conducive to facilitating a positive change of behaviour amongst former street children and mould them into honest citizens.

1997 – KUWINDA

This is the main centre and it is from here that all the activities of the entire project are coordinated. Today we have over 300 street children under our care out of this 150 boys stay here and attend the primary school. 40 are in langatta. 65 children are attending the secondary schools in different part of the country. They come back to the centre during the holidays. Thirty five of them in Don Bosco Makuyu and Don Bosco Boys Town attending the technical skills training.  There fifteen students in the University and are doing well.
Apart from the street children’s project we have a primary school in the same compound and about 140 children together with the attend the school from the near by slums. We have a kindergarten in Kuwinda Slum and about 50 children attend the programme there.

1994 – LANG'ATA

This centre was established in 1994 and is now our reception centre. New boys who join the project are first sent to this centre for rehabilitation. About 30-50 boys stay in this centre.

Here the boys get the opportunity to get rid of their bad habits such as sniffing glue and  smoking. Here they have non formal classes which helps them to catch up with the lost years. Normally the boys stay here for six months to one year after which they are transferred to Bosco Boys Kuwinda. Today this centre has been fully sponsored by Canadian Hearts and Hands. Thanks a million to all the members of Canadian hearts and hands.

1991 – KARIUA

This is situated in the heart of Nairobi on Kipande road. It was established in 1991 and renovated several times.
In Kariua we run a community nursery school and about 50 children attend the school. This centre acts as a contact centre for street children. There is one social worker who contacts the street children and traces their families.  We have a weekend program whereby the street children gather for sporting activities and washing their clothes and prayers etc….. From here those interested to change their life are admitted in Bosco Boys. And we take care of them fully.
